Bobcat Picture
In a Bobcat picture, you’ll see a very small lynx similar in size to domestic cats. Actually, the Bobcat is one of the four subspecies of the Lynx genus. The body length in Bobcat males varies from 70 to 120 cm including the tail. The shoulder height of these animals is 36 to 38 cm. The weight of adult males varies from 7 to 14 kg; females weigh about 9 kg.
The differences between domestic cats and Bobcats are evident in a single Bobcat picture. Bobcats are very muscular; their hind legs are longer than the front legs. The tail in the Bobcat is short, about 10-18 cm. The ears of the Bobcat are black-tipped, with black tufts, shorter than in other lynx species. The face of the Bobcat seems to be wide because of long hair under the ears. The eyes of the Bobcat are yellow with vertically elongated black pupils.
The similarity to the domestic cat is evident on any Bobcat picture. The coat of the Bobcat is usually tan or brown with a cat-like tabby pattern or black streaks throughout the body. A spotted coat acts as a camouflage in dense vegetation and allows these animals to come close to the prey. Southern subspecies that inhabit deserts and semi-arid areas are much lighter in color and smaller in size than northern ones that live in forests. Solid black Bobcats are very rare.
The Bobcat is a pure carnivore. It’s a very efficient hunter able to kill a prey larger than itself. These animals have sharp vision, hearing, and sense of smell. They are excellent climbers and swimmers. They feed on rabbits, hares, rats, birds, fish, and insects. When food is scarce in winter, Bobcats raid domestic livestock and prey on fawns and even adult deer. Like most cats, these animals never hunt in groups. They adjust their hunting techniques according to the type of prey. They can stalk the prey or wait till it comes closer. Bobcats grab their prey with their long retractable claws and kill it with their sharp teeth. A Bobcat picture gallery featuring an attractive and quiet furry animal doesn’t represent the true picture of the Bobcat’s personality.
