Bobcats are moderate-sized felines found on vast territories of the United States and Canada. They have received their name due to a very short tail that is about 4-5 inches long. In comparison with the rest of the body, the tail does seem too short. The Bobcat's body length is about 30-50 inches, while the height is approximately 2 feet high. An adult Bobcat weighs about 15-30 pounds.

A dense fur on the cheeks that forms a sort of tufts characterizes the species. The Bobcat's coat color is close to reddish or brown with light areas below. Black markings cover the whole body of the Bobcat.

Bobcats have a number of adaptations that help them to survive in the wild. Thus, the species has antenna-like hairs on the ear tips. They increase the species' ability to capture even insignificant sounds. The Bobcat makes a good hunter due to its keen senses. It has good eyesight and can climb and swim well.

Bobcats are strictly carnivore animals. Their diet consists mainly of rabbits, gophers, wood rats, mice, and birds. Bobcats have been known to hunt the deer and lamb. In the case the killed prey is too large for a Bobcat to move, it will hide it for a later use. Since Bobcats are nocturnal animals, they are rarely seen hunting.
